Lamentations 3:22-23
It is because of Yahweh’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.
Lamentations is funeral poetry for a destroyed city, and this sits in the middle of it. The writer is not feeling better. He is counting what is left.
“Not consumed” is a low bar and an honest one. Not thriving, not restored, not even comforted yet. Still here. On some mornings that is the whole of the good news, and it is enough to get up on.
New every morning means the supply is not drawn from yesterday. Whatever you used up getting through the last day was not taken out of today’s allowance.
