Prayers for depression and despair
I can't seem to get out of bed
For the heavy days when hope feels far away.
Also for can't get out of bed · no motivation · depression fatigue · exhausted all the time · can't function · low energy depression · don't want to face the day · stuck in bed · sleeping too much · avoiding the day · paralyzed by depression
Cause me to hear your loving kindness in the morning, for I trust in you. Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to you.
It is because of Yahweh’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.
He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. Even the youths faint and get weary, and the young men utterly fall; but those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.
“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
I waited patiently for Yahweh. He turned to me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay. He set my feet on a rock, and gave me a firm place to stand.
He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me. Therefore I take pleasure in weaknesses, in injuries, in necessities, in persecutions, and in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then am I strong.
A prayer
Original writing, not a quotation of Scripture.
Lord, some mornings the weight of just getting up feels like too much, and I don't have a good explanation for why. I'm not asking for everything to feel easy today, just enough strength for the next small step. Meet me here in the heaviness instead of waiting for me to feel better first.
Help me be honest about how hard this is with someone who can actually help me carry it, whether that's you in prayer, a friend, or a counselor who understands this better than I do. In Jesus' name, Amen.
