Prayers for depression and despair
Dark thoughts I haven't told anyone
For the heavy days when hope feels far away.

Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.
Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him, the saving help of my countenance, and my God.
It is because of Yahweh’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.
Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way.
“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.
He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.

Lord, there are thoughts in my mind right now that scare me, and I haven't found the words, or the courage, to say them out loud to anyone. You already see them fully, and you haven't turned away from me because of them. Help me not carry this alone in silence any longer.
Give me the courage to tell someone I trust, a friend, a pastor, a counselor, a doctor, everything I'm really feeling, and help that person respond with the care I need. You are close to me even here. In Jesus' name, Amen.
