Trust
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
The word lean is doing the work here. Leaning is what you do when you are tired and there happens to be a wall. It is not really a decision. It is a habit, and you usually notice it only when the wall moves.
Your own understanding is a wall like that. It is not the enemy. Proverbs is a book full of good judgment and it never asks you to stop thinking. It asks you not to put your whole weight on your thinking, because your thinking cannot carry you.
Straight paths are not the same as short ones. The promise is not that the route gets easier. It is that it goes somewhere.
